HOSA TRIO PRODUCES A MENTAL HEALTH PSA

HOSA (a student extracurricular organization geared towards future health professionals) challenges students to build their knowledge and skills. It offers an opportunity for the students to showcase their expertise in a competitive event.

A trio of Bedford students put together a PSA on “How to Talk to Friends and Family About Mental Health” as part of their entry in an event at the upcoming Regional Leadership Conference. Their short 30 second video gives you a quick overview of what to notice in their actions and gives suggestions on how to show you care. It concludes with a couple of links to additional resources at seizetheawkward.org and mentalhealth.gov. You can view their PSA here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DixSObWVNCc

BHS Student Published in Teen Ink with picturesAND Another BHS STUDENT SELECTED BY NATIONAL PUBLICATION!

Teen Ink has a website and national magazine devoted entirely to writing, art, photos, and forums of teenagers from around the world. For over 33 years, Teen Ink has offered teens the opportunity to publish their creative work and opinions on issues that affect their lives – everything from love and family to school, current events, and self-esteem. Hundreds of thousands of students, aged 13-19, have submitted their work and more than 55,000 teens have been published since 1989. Madison H. becomes the most recent BHS student selected for inclusion in this prestigious showcase of teen talent.

Madison's memoir, "Memories Built from Love," was chosen for the February 2023 issue of Teen Ink. Mrs. Heartz offered her praise for Maddie's writing, "Congratulations to Maddie! Maddie uses vivid imagery to capture the magic of a concert she attended with her sister, as well as revealing the bond they share." You can use this link to read her story!

BHS Student Published in Teen Ink with pictures

Jackson had his memoir, "Guitar Man," published in the January 2023 issue. You can use this link to read "Guitar Man." "Congratulations to Jackson!" his teacher, Mrs. Heartz, exclaimed, "In his writing, Jackson illustrates in vivid detail his love of playing guitar and the deeper meaning that it brings to his life."

Once students submit work to Teen Ink to be considered for publication, their editors review each individual piece. If approved, the submission is first published on their website. From there, the editors chose the best of the best to include in their bi-monthly digital magazine.

BHS Students Published in Teen Ink with pictures

The October 2022 issue featured contributions from TWO Bedford High School students! Hussein J. and Alyssa R., current Bedford seniors, had their work selected to be published. Hussein's memoir "The Worn Wallet" is on pg. 10-11 of the Teen Ink October 2022 issue. Alyssa's photo is on pg. 62 published under the pen name L Hayze.

As juniors, Hussein and Alyssa were in Mrs. Heartz's English class when they sent their work to Teen Ink. Mrs. Heartz was thrilled to learn that two of her students were selected for inclusion in the same issue, "Out of the over 100,000 students who submit to the national magazine Teen Ink each year, Hussein’s memoir and Alyssa’s art represent the very best submissions that were chosen for publication. Hussein’s memoir reveals the ways in which a wallet that is passed from father to son to brother serves as a rite of passage and a powerful connection that binds his family together. Alyssa’s photo is a creative piece of art that fits perfectly with the October issue. Congratulations to Hussein and Alyssa!"
