SMITH ROAD ELEMENTARY (SRE)
GSRP ACCEPTING REGISTRATIONS FOR 2024-2025 School Year
The Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) is a tuition-FREE Preschool that prepares children for kindergarten. Eligible students are children living in Monroe County who attain age 4 by September 1st of the current school year.*
This high-quality preschool program explores the content areas of literacy, math, science, and social studies through active learning experiences. Children develop language and problem solving skills through peer interactions and play. The curriculum is aligned with the Early Childhood Standards of Quality for Pre-kindergarten.
The Great Start Readiness Program is funded by a grant from the Michigan Department of Education. The State has identified factors that may affect your child’s education at any time in his/her kindergarten through 12th grade school career.
Bedford Public Schools offers GSRP at Smith Road Elementary school.
- 3 Full day classrooms (Monday-Thursday)
- Breakfast & lunch provided for all classes
- Family activities throughout the year
Children with any of the following factors will be considered for the program:
• Your child has a developmental delay.
• Your child has challenging behavior.
• Your family’s primary language is not English.
• You do not have a high school diploma or GED.
• Your child has experienced abuse/neglect or there is domestic violence in the home
• Environmental risk factor(s) are present in the home.
• Your family meets the income guidelines, effective July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2023, as listed below:

Great Start Readiness Program Application
The following information will need to be submitted:
Proof of Income:
-- W-2s OR
-- Income Tax Return OR
-- SSI, TANF OR
-- 4 weeks of pay stubs
Child's Birth Certificate
Proof of Residency (drivers license AND current utility bill, AND mortgage/rent/lease, etc.)
Immunization Record (if available)
Guardianship/Foster Care documentation if applicable

GSRP: 4 yrs. by Sept. 1st of the current school year
Head Start: 3 yrs. by Sept. 1st of the current school year
