Congratulations to the Bedford Girls Swim and Dive team as they had a successful state competition!

They started off with a first year diver, Sophomore Libby B., who moved up from 35th to 25th in the diving category. She will be back again next year with all the improvements that she made in just one year!

In Saturday's swim competition, the relay teams finished an unusual season with strong performances in the pool.

The 200 Medley relay of Alexa F., Ava B., Gabby P., and Hannah S. finished 2.5 seconds faster than their seed time and made the podium in 13th place. They were thrilled.

The 400 Free Relay (Hannah S., Gabby P., Alexa F., and Ava B.) had a season best and finished in 19th place.

The 200 Freestyle Relay Team (Alexa F., Gabby P., Jenna A., and Hannah S.) finished 21st with a solid performance.

Alexa F. and Ava B. also competed in a few individual events. Alexa dropped over a second in her 100 Backstroke and broke the 1 minute barrier with a time of 59.98. She was the team’s highest finisher in 12th place.

Ava B. finished 16th for a spot on the podium for the 100 Breaststroke. She beat her personal best time by 1 second. She also swam in the 200 IM, finishing just at her seed time, and took 19th place.

Overall, the team tied with Battle Creek Lakeview for 24th in the state.

Varsity Swim & Dive Coach Holly Scheffer was impressed with the team’s efforts, “This whole season was a roller coaster of emotions. The whole team, but especially these state qualifiers, had to dig deep to stay focused and motivated with all the obstacles that were put in our way. The girls did a great job of continuing to train hard even when the finish line was out of sight and out of their control. I am very proud of how they handled everything with a positive attitude.”

Congratulations to Coach Holly Scheffer and her Assistant Coach, Ally Steffin, and all of the Lady Mules on an outstanding season.

Special thanks also to our District nurses, Karen Weis and Mindy Klawonn, and our athletic trainer, Teresa Swartout for their support of the team. They took extra time throughout the week to conduct the state required COVID testing protocols that allowed our girls to compete.
