State Assessments and Comparisons
Michigan summative assessments are required under the Michigan State School Aid Act and/or the Federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
The Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress, or M-STEP, is a computer-based assessment designed to gauge how well students are mastering state standards in order to be prepared to enter the workplace, career education training, and college. Eighth grade students took the PSAT in ELA and Math and juniors also take the SAT.
When combined with classroom work, report cards, local district assessments and other tools, M-STEP results offer a comprehensive view of student progress and achievement.
For more information on the state assessments required, please refer to the Michigan Department of Education's webpage on Student Assessment.
How Bedford Compares With State Averages in 2022 Assessment Testing
As a district, Bedford Public Schools exceeded the state average in 18 of the 20 tests that the students took.
As with any summative standardized test, this is one snapshot of how our students perform. We use data generated by this test, in conjunction with other student assessment data gathered throughout the year, to look for ways to improve. Bedford’s Balanced Assessment Team and school improvement efforts continuously focus on ways to improve education for each of our students.
