Dear TRE Parent…
School Year 2012-2013 has got off to an excellent start. The weather has cooperated and stayed on the cool side. This has been most helpful. I like to take this opportunity to remind our wonderful and supportive parents of some important information:
Comunication: Please feel free to communicate with me via the telephone (734-850-6501) or e-mail (ken.graf@bedford.k12.mi.us ). Or better yet—just stop by my office for a chat.
Insist on daily attendance-- Research has proven that attendance is the number one school success factor. When students miss school, they miss class instruction, discussions, assignments, group projects, and quiz/test review. Parents who allow their children to miss school when they aren’t ill not only hurt their child’s education, they also send a message that school isn’t important. If your child doesn’t want to go to school, or if you’re seeing a pattern of excuses to miss school, talk to your child or to your child’s teacher or to Mrs Vancena, TRE’s Student Support Coordinator (734-850-6512.).
Bullying: Bullying can be a problem for students. Talk to your child about what to do if he/she ever witnesses or hears about what to do if he/she ever witnesses or hears about a student being bullied. If your child complains about being bullied or harassed, find out exactly what has happened and then talk to your child’s teacher or me. Sometimes students are afraid to tell their parents that they’re being bullied. If your child suddenly doesn’t want to go to school, ask your child is someone is bullying or harassing him/her in any way.
Work with your school to resolve problems: If your child complains about a subject or a teacher, listen closely and try to determine what’s going on. While doing so, remember that part of your child’s education is to learn how to succeed in subjects that your child may not particularly enjoy. Also remember that it’s important for students to learn how to adapt to different teachers and teaching styles. Please don’t hesitate to contact the teacher. I, too, am available to assist in resolving problems.
TRE Updates:
- TRE is very excited to have five Student Intervention Providers to work with TRE students needing extra support in reading and math. This year’s Intervention Providers are Mrs. Canales, Mrs. Faziani, Miss Nelson, Mrs. Obee and Miss Price. They are under the direction of Mrs. Bev Cordray. Mrs. Cordray is TRE’s “Reading Specialist”.
- Feel free to get involved in your child’s “school life” by joining our wonderful PTA. This year’s meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month at 3:30 p.m. in the TRE Media Center.
- If you drive by Temperance Road Elementary on a Sunday and see our parking lot full of cars please stop in and enjoy Hornet Football. The Hornet Football teams are made up of mostly Temperance Road boys and girls.
As always, thank you for sending us your very best children.
