This class integrates reading, writing, listening, and speaking to increase literacy in its approach to language arts instruction. Freshmen will read books from several genres and time periods, in addition to the Holt Rinehart Winston anthology, to increase their understanding of literature, especially through the study of literary elements. They will engage in writing-to-learn activities and write processed compositions, including a research paper, to improve the clarity, logic, and vitality of their writing. Grammar study will review the basic parts of speech as well as phrases and clauses.

This class integrates reading, writing, listening, and speaking to increase literacy in its approach to language arts instruction. Sophomores will read books from several genres and time periods in addition to the Holt Rinehart Winston anthology to increase their understanding of literature, especially through the study of literary elements. They will engage in writing-to-learn activities and write processed compositions, including a research paper, to improve the clarity, logic, and vitality of their writing. Grammar and vocabulary developments are integral parts of the curriculum.

This class integrates reading, writing, listening, and speaking in its approach to language arts instruction. Students will read a variety of literature in various genres to increase their understanding of literature, especially through their study of literary elements. They will engage in writing-to-learn activities, writing a minimum of two processed essays per term. Grammar and writing conventions will be taught and adhered to. Juniors are expected to write with relatively few errors in usage, spelling, and grammar. Outside reading is required

This course offers students the opportunity to sharpen their writing and speaking skills to prepare them for the workforce. Students will read a variety of novels, plays, short stories, poems, and nonfiction. Various writing assignments will enhance this class, and students will be required to write a processed research paper. Career opportunities, job selection, interview skills, and business letters will be highlighted. This course is not recommended for college-bound seniors.
