Bedford Band & Orchestra Boosters
Scrip Program
*What is Scrip
Scrip is an independent buyer association (Great Lakes Scrip) that provides a means for non-profit organizations to raise money. Basically it is Gift Certificates that you purchase in advance of your shopping, dining, etc...
*How does it work?
You decide which vendor you wish to make purchases from (see list), place the order by Sunday night at 9:00 p.m. and the certificates are usually available for pick up by Thursday night. The will let you know that your order is available for pickup. You make arrangements to get them and pay for them on receipt.
*What is the advantage to buying scrip?
Great Lake Scrip sells us the certificates at a percentage discount, depending on the vendor (see list). The purchaser pays full price, the difference between the discount and full price (think of it at retail versus wholesale) is put into the individual(s) account to be used towards Band Camp, Band or Orchestra Trips or Clinics. This will help offset the costs of any trips your student may take while in high school. These certificates are worth their face value so you are not paying any more than what you would have if you just went into the store or restaurant without the certificate. This way you are getting a percentage back into your students account.
*Does the student get the money?
No, the money is held in account and a tally is kept on each student as to credit earned. An accounting is given to the Band and Orchestra Boosters monthly. In addition, with each order the amount of credit accumulated is accounted on the statement given with each order. The money can be used toward Band Camp, Band or Orchestra Trips or Clinics. Any money left in a student's account upon graduation or if the student quits band or orchestra, the money will be placed in the General Fund or if there is a sibling will be put into he sibling's account.
*How do I place an order?
Orders are due weekly, by Sunday at 9:00 p.m., so that the order can be placed and delivery can be made by Thursday or Friday night. You can place your order in one of three ways 1) phone 847-1712 and give the coordinator Terri Scherer your order, including which vendor desired, the amount of the certificate and the quantity you desire. 2) Email to teribear@accesstoledo.com with the vendor, denomination desired and quantity. 3) You are able to order directly online at www.glscrip.com (It won't be released until oked by Terri Scherer and it will be delivered to her). If you choose this way you can pay for it using PrestoPay (there is a fee to use this) or you can pay when you pick up your order. For more information about this option and the group ID number call Terri Scherer 847-1712.
*How do I pay?
You will pay when you pick up your order. You can pay by cash or check. If you pay by check please make it out to "Bedford Band Boosters."
*How will I know how much money/credit my student has?
These will be a statement given to each purchase when you receive your order. It will show what you ordered, the amount of credit earned for the current order and the cumulative credit earned.
*Are there any fees?
At this time, (for the Florida trip year) we will be deducting 5% from your credit on each order to help cover the cost of shipping and to put toward the General Fund. For example if you order (4) $25 Cabela's Certificates for a total of $100 with a 11% discount, your credit would be $11 minus 5% ($0.55) so you student would get $10.45 credit.
*Can my relatives use the scrip program too?
Sure, we encourage this; any money accumulated will be put into the student(s) account. Scrip gift certificates make great presents for family and friends. These certificates make great Birthday, Graduation and Christmas gifts!
