“ I have a dream that one day this nation will rise and live out

the true meaning of its creed. We hold these truths to be self

evident that all men are created equal.” This is a famous speech was

given by Martin Luther King Jr. He believed that we are all equal

on the inside and outside.

The speech that he wrote about above was called “I have a

Dream”. This speech was told at Washington D.C. at

Lincoln Memorial on August, 28, 1963. He wasn’t afraid to

speak his mind. He was upset about the fact that African Americans

were treated badly.

People reacted differently. Most African Americans and other

people agreed with him. But most whites disliked him. African

Americans were disliked by white people. I think because whites

thought they were better than the black people. But the truth is we

are all equal.

When he went to speak some people thought that he was

amazing to stand up for what is right. He was even arrested for

believing in what he though was right. When others heard him

speak they were mad because they thought is he trying to

change something that never will change, but they were wrong.

He impacted people by giving them hope and maybe just

maybe a chance to be treated like a regular person. And someday

believe it or not that white children and African Americans will be able

to sit with each other and be friends. He gave them light at the end

of a dark tunnel.

He became involved with the civil rights movement. He wanted

peace between African Americans and whites. He also wanted equal

treatment for African Americans. He and other African American

leaders began a protest in Montgomery Alabama in 1955.

They began a boycott of the bus services. African Americans

walked instead of taking the bus. It lasted over one year.

Martin Luther King Jr. was always asked to speak. But that didn’t

leave a lot of family time so he wrote a book called Stride Toward

Freedom . When he was at a book singing an angry woman came

and stabbed him with a mail opener in the chest, but he recovered.

At some of his peaceful demonstrations the police sprayed water

hoses at them and used dogs to try to hurt them.

He thought that poverty caused a lot of anger and frustration.

Poverty was not just for African Americans but also for white people

Asians and Hispanics. In April of 1986 he went to Tennessee

to help workers on strike. There he would give his last speech.

But unfortunately Martin Luther King Jr. was shot and killed on

April 4,1968. He was walking out of his hotel room when he was

shot . He died from the gunshot wounds. Many people were upset

about the death of Martin Luther King Jr. Not Just African Americans

were upset about the death of Dr. King but white people were too.

Martin Luther King Jr. touched a lot of people. He helped to

change the future. He wasn’t afraid to speak for what was right . I

think that he knew that he was going to make change. That is why I

chose Martin Luther King Jr.
