Dear Jackman Road Families!

It is hard to believe that this school year is quickly coming to a close. We had an amazing year full of fun and learning. As I look back on this year, it is easy to realize that our students were able to benefit because of the extra efforts of the JRE team. This team includes so many people! I want to thank all of you who make a difference for our children: teachers, support staff, office staff, custodial crew, PTO, mentors, volunteers, business partners, and of course, YOU, the caring families who send us these wonderful children ready to learn each day.  We are fortunate to be a part of such an amazing district and community.

It is time to begin rounding up our “future” Jaguars for the 2012-2013 school year. We are thrilled that our students will be able to enjoy all day kindergarten. In addition, the teachers are excited about having the additional instructional time. Mailings have been sent out to all of our BPS families regarding this news; however, please encourage anyone who is interested in our schools to call and schedule a visit to learn more about our wonderful educational programs.  Please let any friends or neighbors that are new to Bedford Public Schools know that they may register for the 2012-2013 school year at the administration building on Sterns Road after the office closes for the summer.  The staffing we receive is based on the actual number of students enrolled. It is helpful if we have actual enrollment numbers as early as possible. We appreciate the opportunity to work with our students on a daily basis and certainly welcome new members to the JRE family.

Here are a few ideas to consider how to keep your child engaged during the long summer break.
  • Encourage your child to read daily.
  • Have your child write letters, postcards, to do lists, keep a journal, diary, a travel log, etc. Involve them in family projects such as planning a trip, barbeque, pool party, etc.
  • Find time during the week to brush up on basic math routines with your child. Ideas to support this could be going shopping and using money, recipes, sewing or crafts to work on measurement.
These above mentioned activities can help prevent the three to six month learning loss that typically occurs over the summer break.

I feel fortunate to be the principal of a school that strives to do their best to be their best each and every day.   Thank you for the opportunity to work with your amazing children and have a safe and wonderful summer!

Sincerely,
Sherry A. Farnan
