The Junior High Quiz Bowl program begins in January with a homeroom team of five students representing each of 32 homerooms. Students study prepared questions a week ahead of time that align with the MEAP Grade Level Content Expectations (GLCE’s) in English language Arts, Science, Math and Social Studies. Teams from all homerooms compete in the media center every day, each team coming to the table seven times in eight weeks. At the end of this competition, champion homerooms are decided through point accumulation, and, in some cases, through play-off elimination. A trophy is passed each year to the winning home room in each grade, to be stored In that room for the following school year.

The final phase of Quiz Bowl is preparation for the Monroe County Middle Schools Quiz Bowl held at the ISD in early April. Each middle school in Monroe County sends one team per grade level. Our teams are composed of the highest scorers at each grade level throughout the BJHS competition described above.

2008 was the fourth year in a row that our Eighth Grade won the championship, and the second year for our Seventh Grade.

Mrs. Pam Seiler, a BJHS parent throughout 2005-2007, volunteered over 90 hours to coach and run the quiz Bowl program from January through April. Mrs. Seiler is certainly our beloved “Coach of the Year” who we appreciate beyond words.
