Communications Disruption Possible--Now Rescheduled

Technology services (all computers and internal phone access) will be affected Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015 at 3:15pm but should be up and running by Friday, Sept. 4, 2015 at 7am. It is possible that services still might be down or intermittent on Friday.  Everything will be operational on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015 for the first day of school with students.

This will NOT affect HAC access since this is a service that is hosted by the ISD and not connected to our equipment.

Our Board of Education recently approved a necessary update to our district technology services that is vital to the operations of our school district, our Core Switch.  This device controls our Internet, phones, network, and access to function as an organization in today's delicately balanced world of computers.  Currently our Core Switch is ten years old.  These should be updated every five to seven years and to say we need a new one is an understatement. This project was delayed until we emerged from a deficit district status and now, thankfully, we are in a position to make the much needed updates. It is imperative that we are able to provide our students and staff with secure, stable, and reliable connectivity as we move forward with our 1:1 Learning Initiative. Nearly every facet of our organization relies on our core infrastructure to successfully operate on a daily basis.

Once work begins, there will be no connectivity for any devices either internally or externally to our district's network or Internet along with hard phone lines internally.  We are hopeful that this work will be able to be completed during the evening and operationally have everything up and running in less than 48 hours.  This ending date and time cannot be guaranteed however, so we are expecting intermittent phone and Internet/network service during the transition of equipment. Core Switch replacement will also affect printing.  Staff will not be able to print anything during the time the Core Switch is being replaced.

We know that there truly will never be an ideal time that this transition to the new Core Switch will be without affect, but we tried to choose a time that was least disruptive to student and teacher instructional time (hence before the school year begins). We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and we appreciate your patience as we switch our switch!

Stadium Track to Close Temporarily for Resurfacing

Our track will be getting resurfaced! Using funds from an Installment Purchase Agreement, private donations, and contributions to an online GoFundMe account, the current track surface at the Bedford Community Stadium will be scraped off, base repairs made, a new surface installed, track markings repainted and protective coverings ordered to prolong its lifespan. Payments on the Installment Purchase Agreement will be coming from the General Fund.

Having a new track surface installed means that we will once again have a facility worthy of hosting the SEC Track Championships on May 13, 2016! Track conditions had deteriorated to the point where Superintendent Mark Kleinhans had recommended to the Board of Education that Bedford's track was no longer safe for competition. Bedford's Track team would not have been able to host any meets, much less an SEC Championship.

Our track, in addition to being a competitive sport facility and used for conditioning by many athletes in other sports, is a classroom. It serves as a physical education facility for the 2,700 students in both Bedford Junior High School and Bedford High School. Physical Education is a state mandated curriculum and graduation requirement. Students are evaluated on their fitness/performance as they run the track and this grade is reflected in their GPA.

In addition to use by students and athletes, the track is also open to community members to use as a free fitness resource. Due to the track replacement, the track will be closed to allow for the work to be done.

Work has begun! The project should take 2 weeks to complete.
